The department of Conservative Dentistry is the branch of dentistry which is concerned with the preservation of natural teeth in the mouth. The department came into existence in the year 2011 with a mission of providing quality dental treatment at affordable costs and also to train dental graduates. The various treatment provided includes aesthetic fillings, root canal treatment, surgical endodontic, endodontic implants, bleaching, & management of traumatized teeth, performing specialized, high-end demanding aesthetic procedures including smile designing. The department is equipped with the highest standards of current trend clinical OPDs and pre-clinical laboratories. The Department infra-structure consists of fully functioning undergraduate clinics, pre-clinical phantom head laboratory, library, radiography room, sterilization rooms and faculty rooms.
The department is also equipped with current state of the art casting and ceramic laboratory for fabrication of various indirect restoration including aesthetic ceramic restorations. The undergraduate students are trained under various aspects of conservative dentistry and endodontics under the able guidance of our HOD Dr. Yohan Chacko. The entire faculty of team endodontics are highly skilled and talented to train and motivate the students. During the first and second years of curriculum the undergraduate students are trained with plaster models and typhodont is provided to familiarize the students with restorative procedures. In the third and final years the students are trained to handle various clinical scenarios relating to operative dentistry. The undergraduate students have consistently exhibited laudable performances in various state and national level academic deliberations and conferences, bagging many awards for their presentations.
The Department also organizes continuing dental education programmes regularly and the latest being “Advances in Resin composite usage” held in June 2017 which had a participation of over 100 students from various states hosted by our ever charming HOD Dr Yohan who is the youngest ever speaker to address a post graduate gathering in the year 2001 at the FODI PG convention held at Mumbai. Since then he has lectured extensively on various aspects of aesthetic dentistry and endodontics across the states of India. He is also a well renowned musician, artist and an highly acclaimed academician
