The undergraduate orthodontic academic program offered by AMDEC is truly unique; and aims to maximize clinical knowledge with a robust theoretical platform; the curriculum designed and followed by the department is highlighted below:
Teaching modules are devised to increase the students understanding via interactive, classroom and clinical sessions through the use of audio- visual aids to improve their conventional classroom approach. Customized videos describing different clinical techniques and teaching exercises that are specially designed by each faculty member is an important highlight of the department which is accessible to the students 24 hours.
Training is imparted to undergraduate students in identifying, differentiating the different orthodontic problems and management strategic of different protocols. The department undergraduate laboratory is equipped with best laboratory instrument and materials with the state of art facility and students are encouraged and motivated to explore their creativity and talent. Clinical assisting of faculty members during the management of complex craniofacial deformities, cleft lip and palate, complex skeletal malocclusion with patient centric focus on educating the students is an important part of the curriculum. Students also handle minor cases like spacing, habits corrections, overjet reduction, behavior management and counseling of orthodontic patient. Additionally, hands on training is given to improve clinical skills as well as creativity through customized practice and patient Training Modules with an emphasis in understanding how an orthodontic patient is managed.
Community outreach programs and awareness programs are undertaken by students themselves to improve awareness of orthodontic problems and importance of early interventions in local communities of Chengalpet and Kanchipuram district.
