LASER is one of the most captivating technologies in dental practice. Introduced as an alternative to mechanical cutting devices, Laser has now become an instrument of choice in many dental applications. Broadly classified as hard and soft tissue lasers, they have multitude uses ranging from removal of caries to treatment of peri-implantitis. Soft tissue lasers are a good choice for bacterial reduction and coagulation in the treatment sequence. Lasers increase tissue surface sterilization which reduces bacteremia and decreases swelling, oedema and scarring. In addition it is significantly painless, bloodless and provides better wound healing. Lasers also reduce surgical time and are highly acceptable by patients.
