The department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology deals with first year and third year students. It is the only dental subject in the first year (Dental Anatomy and Dental Histology) which gives thorough knowledge about the anatomy of each tooth and histology of the associated oral cavity structures. Oral Pathology which is third year subject gives us an elaborate pathology of all oral diseases which is later dealt in detail by the final year subjects. These two subjects play a major role for the future dentists to understand normal tissues and diseases affecting oral cavity. During the internship students learn the importance of taking biopsies and are trained to prepare and analyse Histopathological slides.
We also practice the second years undertake the preparation of the ground sections. The department has around 400 ground sections made by the students, 78 oral histology teaching slides, 86 oral pathology teaching slides and 57 monocular illuminated microscopes and 1 trinocular microscope. We have 60 models and 60 charts done by our students. The department has maintained 85% of pass percentage from 2012 to 2017.
