Rural Health Centre at Kothimangalam village, Thirukkalukundram was established in the year July – 2013 with the objective to provide ‘Accessible and Affordable Oral Health Care to the Community’. The village was well connected to the following 6 nearby villages – Puliyur, Pulikundram, Eegai, Anna Nagar, Palla Eegai and Echoor and to the Thirukkalukundram town, the centre has the potential to serve the population of about 25,000 people in its vicinity (Source: Census of India, 2011).
The centre was successfully run till today by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Asan Memorial Dental College and Hospital. OP timings of the centre are from Monday to Saturday - 9:00AM to 01:00PM. Faculty and Interns posted in the department of Public Health Dentistry is been made in-charge for running the centre. The Interns were provided with Comprehensive Clinical Training similar to a clinical dental setup at the centre. They were given free hand in treating the patients.
The centre provides following dental treatment like – Scaling, Restoration, Root Canal Treatment, Extraction, Prosthesis, Pedodontic care and Geriatric Care. Patients in need of advanced dental care are referred to the Institution for further management. Centre also takes the responsibility in conducting field surveys to assess the oral health status of the local community and also conducts periodic dental screening camps for the children studying in the schools of the above mentioned villages.
